Attracting and recruiting

We are responsible for ensuring that we recruit the right workforce not only with the right skills and in the right numbers, but with the right values to support effective team working in delivering excellent patient care and experience. We have a number of programmes, across a number of professions in order to ensure we deliver a better health and healthcare workforce for England.

Come back to nursing

Experienced nurses who want to come back to the profession have much to offer patients, employers and society. Coming back to the profession has never been easier with courses and training on hand to ease the transition and build skills.

Equality and diversity

We live in a diverse society and at Health Education England we seek to embrace a workforce that represents staff across the whole NHS and the patients we all ultimately serve.

International office

Countries across the world, particularly economies such as Brazil, India, China and those in the Middle East are investing in the development of their healthcare systems.  As living standards improve expectations of the quality and scope of healthcare is growing.  At the same time the burden of long term chronic conditions associated with a more sedentary lifestyle and an aging population is weighing on resources and infrastructure.

Medical recruitment

We are responsible for commissioning under and postgraduate education for doctors and dentists to ensure that we have a workforce in the right numbers, with the right skills, values and behaviours to respond to the current and future needs of patients. This includes delivering medical recruitment programmes and overseeing specialty recruitment in England.

Values based recruitment

Values based recruitment is an approach which attracts and recruits students, trainees and employees on the basis that their individual values and behaviours align with the values of the NHS Constitution. This should take place as part of existing recruitment processes which assess aptitude and skills.
