Shine Awards and Annual Conference 2016

The Wessex Annual Conference and Shine Awards ceremony was on Thursday 20 October 2016 at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. This is our key annual stakeholder event where we share innovation and progress in workforce development from across Wessex and celebrate best practice in education and training.

Wessex Annual Conference and Shine Awards Ceremony 2016 

Stakeholders from across Wessex came together to take a strategic view of the workforce challenges facing health and social care and to hear of some of the innovative work that Health Education England and partners have put into action during the year.

 

 
Dr Kieron Cooney, Senior Partner at St Helen’s Medical Centre,
Isle of Wight is presented with an Inspiring Educator of the Year
Commendation by Ruth Monger, Local Director and Jane Barrie,
Chair, South of England, Local Education and Training Board. 

  

 

 

 

This year's theme was 'Sustainable and transformed?' The challenges of meaningful workforce development in health and care'.

Ruth Monger, Local Director opened the event and urged delegates to consider how we, as leaders in workforce development, sustain ourselves in order to drive change across the system. Ruth also launched the Wessex Advanced Nurse Practice Framework - a tool for employers to support the development of Master’s level practice.

 


After an open and engaging discussion with a panel, delegates had the opportunity to discover more about an area of interest in a selection workshops. Key note speaker was Patrick Mitchell, Director, South of England, Health Education England. Patrick’s speech highlighted the complexity of change across the system and described how the STAR tool could support employers to develop their workforces.

 


During the afternoon, Professor Sir Muir Gray gave a vision of the future of healthcare before the Shine Awards ceremony was compered by Dr Simon Plint, Postgraduate Dean.
