Health Education England Thames Valley works closely with local partners, such as Thames Valley Strategic Clinical Network  and other organisations to improve End of Life Care through learning and development programmes to suit all levels and across all professions.

We recognise that end-of-life care is “everyone’s business” but that differing levels of training are required for dependent upon level of experience, responsibility and context. When planning CPD requirements all Thames Valley NHS Trusts are urged to consider the learning needs for end-of-life care across all staff – i.e. not just nursing staff, but also Therapists, ITU practitioners, and receptionists.

Course commissioning and development

  • Communication Skills: HEETV has engaged a new provider for the Advanced Communication Skills training. The course is open to all senior healthcare professionals who provide care to people in the last year of their life (Bands 6-9, Consultants and GPs).
  • Half-day topical workshops: HEETV continue to support these popular training events run by Thames Valley Strategic Clinical Network. Topics have included Dementia and End of Life Care, Compassionate Communities, and Preparing for last months of life: having the conversation, making difficult decisions.
  • Thames Valley End of Life Care Education Group

Comprising members drawn from health and education organisations across Thames Valley, this consultative group advises on the needs of facilitators for End of Life Care and topics for future workshops.
