Nursing and midwifery

Ensuring the right number of nurses and midwives, with the right skills, values and behaviours, to deliver care at the right time and place


We’re ensuring that nurses are recruited in the right numbers and that throughout their careers, receive consistent high quality education and training to support the delivery excellent care.

Our 2016/18 strategy for nursing and midwifery in North West London has been designed to embed a system-wide approach to workforce development and education and training for these professions.

The strategy has been co-produced with all of the Directors of Nursing in North West London, at their request, and was approved in principle by our advisory body for North West London in December 2015.

It has been shared with a sample of education providers and our patient forum for insight and comment.

The strategy has four key objectives:              

  • Developing the unregistered workforce
  • Developing the pre-registration workforce
  • Supporting employers to develop the qualified workforce
  • Strengthening nursing through local and national agendas
