Specialty training

Following completion of your foundation programme as a junior doctor you will progress to specialty training. There are three options here in the north east and north Cumbria; Core or run-through training, General Practice Training or Academic Clinical Fellowship Training

Your specialty training years are demanding. They will challenge your character, your mind and your heart, but with this hard work and vast learning experience comes the unique reward of directly improving people’s lives.

It’s important that you have wide and varied experiences in different fields and environments. All of our trusts are teaching hospitals so you’ll gain a breadth of experience in selected and supervised hospital posts throughout the area, in large university acute hospitals, community hospitals and district general hospitals. Together, these offer you the experience you need and the opportunity to work with nationally and internationally recognised clinicians and leaders.
