Apprenticeships are an essential workforce development tool and many employers in North Central and East London are currently benefiting from including apprentices in their workforce plans. In 2014/15 there were 490 apprenticeships in healthcare in North Central and East London.
As part of the Health Education England mandate we are working with providers around supporting apprenticeships, with the aim to double the number of apprenticeships in healthcare in our area. This gives us a fantastic opportunity to offer apprenticeships to our local communities, to widen their participation in the health care workforce and enhance the talent pools on which we depend for excellent health care services.
We are supporting employers to increase their apprenticeship numbers through a number of means, including:
- Developing an employer tool-kit to help employers understand the steps they need to take in setting up an apprenticeship scheme.
- Supporting employers across our area to work together, including on joint apprenticeship programmes where appropriate.
- Sharing case information and examples of best practice through our network of apprenticeship leads.
- Investing workforce development funding to enable the expansion of apprenticeship capacity and to get new schemes up and running.
Health Education North Central and East London aim to help you build a sustainable apprenticeship programme that meets your workforce needs.
Support Resources Available
At the bottom of this page in the related documents section you will find an employer’s project management tool kit with resources shared by many established apprentice employers. This is something you can add to and we will update as we learn and share our experiences.
Two apprentice leads have been appointed to support HE NCEL employers with project management and implementation, and facilitate sharing between organisations. The apprentice leads are hosted by Great Ormond Street NHS Foundation Trust.
