As part of their quality assurance processes, the General Medical Council (GMC) conducts visits to Medical Schools, Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs) and Local Education Providers (LEPs) to ensure they are complying with the standards for education and training.

The GMC will visit all of the medical schools and LETBs in a geographical region to make judgements about each individual organisation and to get a picture of education and training in that area. This includes visits to LEPs providing clinical placements for medical schools and delivering the postgraduate training managed by the LETB.

In 2015, the GMC will undertake a Regional Review of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. The review is risk-based, which means that the visits to each organisation will focus on areas of risk and their identification and management, and how good practice is identified and shared. The GMC will look at these issues across all organisations they visit, with the aim of identifying the key issues facing education and training across the region as a whole.

Dates for the HEKSS Regional Review are as follows:

12 May 2015 – William Harvey Hospital

14 May 2015 – East Surrey Hospital

22 May 2015 – Worthing Hospital

27 May 2015 – Royal Sussex County Hospital

28-29 May 2015 – Brighton and Sussex Medical School

11-12 June 2015 – Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex

The GMC will be looking at four specialties in HEKSS: Emergency MedicineGeneral Internal MedicineGeneral Surgery and Foundation Training.
