Dean’s report

HEKSS is required to provide a Dean’s Report (DR) annually to the GMC. This requires us to self-assess and report any exceptions against the GMC’s standards for postgraduate training. As part of the DR, we are required to submit an action plan, which is the key, forward-looking part of the DR. It identifies actions to be taken to resolve areas of concern with levels of concern indicated by a RAG (traffic light) rating system.


The HEKSS Dean’s Report is populated by the Quality Manager and the Associate Dean for Quality (ADQ), and is reviewed by the senior PGME team including the Postgraduate Dean in a series of review meetings, before being submitted to the GMC. The report is monitored by the ADQ and the Quality Manager, who will provide any updates requested by the GMC, advise the LEP Directors of Medical Education (DMEs) on follow-up actions to be undertaken (via Local Academic Boards),  and advise the Heads of School (HoS) on areas to be investigated on quality management visits to LEPs.

The ADQ and Quality Manager update the DR as necessary to ensure it is current, and that all new issues are reported to the GMC as required.
