Excellence in Education Awards 2016

In March 2016, Health Education England – East Midlands, hosted a fantastic awards event to celebrate and recognise excellence and inspiring health educators in the East Midlands. This was the first time this region had run an event which demonstrated the value to patients of our educators, and highlighted the difference good quality education delivers to patients every day.

Seven awards were on offer, all nominated for by peers and were judged by members of the public, and with over 230 nominations made, it was clear how much the work of each educator is appreciated by those they work with and those they educate and train.

Each category celebrated two runners-up, as well as an overall winner, enabling us to recognise a number of individuals.  The patient and public panel also chose a number of individuals who they thought should receive special recognition; therefore an additional category was created, as we felt that the depth of quality that the nominations highlighted should be rewarded.

Nominees attended with team members and with their partners, meaning that the event was valued personally as well as professionally. There was a good spread of professionals, specialties and different geographical areas.

Following on from the event, a letter to each Practice Lead / HEI Vice Chancellor or Trust Chief Executive will be written so they are aware of the strength and dedication that exists within their workforce.

We hope that this event will be the first of many that continues to celebrate those that are making a real difference not only to trainees and students’ education but to the lives and wellbeing of all the patients we serve.
