Leadership and Management - Tier 2 Programme
Tier 2 Programme is launching September 2017
We are pleased to announce that HEE is working in partnership with Northampton General Hospital to deliver advanced Leadership & Management training to trainees who have completed our Tier 1 programme. This will be a 10 week modular course fully funded for all participants.
The aim is to provide participants with a sense of the wider issues facing primary and secondary healthcare and introduce them to the management and leadership issues they will require to perform effectively as a senior clinician including sessions within the Simulation Suite specifically addressing how to manage behaviours.
As part of the course we will also be asking participants to lead and deliver on a patient safety or clinical outcome based quality improvement project. The reason for this is that Professional training has traditionally, and not unreasonably focussed on the specific clinical skills and knowledge of medicine, rather than knowledge of how to work on the system in which it is practiced. To equip the participants to respond to such challenges, this course will teach the principals of improvement methodology as a core competence embedding the ethos that QI makes a difference. The outcome will be the continuous improvement of patient care, creation of a more capable and resilient workforce, together with financial, social and environmental sustainability. Another important facet to this course is that each participant will be provided with supervision and support for successful project outcomes.
Within the last few years NGH has refreshed and reinforced collaborative working with our academic partners at Northampton & Cranfield Universities to support research, enterprise and innovation. There are therefore opportunities for the Registrars project outcomes to be further developed, and at the very least be supported through to poster abstract submission to relevant conferences. It has been confirmed by the Patient Safety Congress (2017) that NGH are the most successful organisation in the UK for this competition. The second most successful organisation have been shortlisted for 3 awards NGH have been shortlisted for all 12 submissions entering all categories of the awards criteria.
The course is planned to commence in September with actual dates and times to be confirmed. Please complete the expressions of interest document and return to Celia Warlow at firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest in the course. Once received the course leader will be more than happy to visit you to discuss further if required and supply the supporting course materials.
