Developing the primary care workforce for tomorrow.
HEE is playing a key part in developing modern multi-disciplinary teams in primary and community care. Our work in training the GPs of the future, expanding the clinical role of professions such as physician associates and clinical pharmacists and developing new roles including medical assistants, will help to shape the future workforce.
Within this work we are actively supporting general practice. In collaboration with NHS England, the Royal College of GPs and the BMA’s GP Committee HEE has produced ‘Building the Workforce – the New Deal for General Practice’, which outlined a series of actions to address recruitment issues of general practitioners. This work encompasses three key strands:
- Recruit: Improving recruitment into general practice
- Retain: Retaining doctors within general practice
- Return: Supporting those who wish to return to general practice
The Primary Care Workforce Commission, chaired by Professor Martin Roland CBE, called for greater collaboration across organisations and a broader range of staff involved in the delivery of healthcare in their report ‘The future of primary care: creating teams for tomorrow.’ You can read more about their report “The future of primary care: creating teams for tomorrow” and our work in primary care on our national site.
We support the roles of Allied Health Professional in the delivery of primary care services. For more information on AHPs click here. To learn more about what we can offer primary care professionals please click on the links below or visit our separate website.
